Attila – also known as Joey began his dance training with the Canadian Dance Company in Mississauga, Ontario under the direction of Allain Lupien, subsequently to join the National Ballet of Canada Academy and boarding for grades 4 thru 8.
Upon receiving a scholarship to the School of American Ballet in high school,
Attila relocated to New York City to join the New York City Ballet under the direction of Peter Martins. After a successful 7 years with NYCB dancing repertory by George Balanchine, Jerome Robbins and Christopher Wheeldon, Attila joined the Tokyo Ballet Company in Japan working with some of the world’s most recognized international choreographers
After 5 years in Japan, thereafter Attila joined the Du Capital ballet of Toulouse France as a soloist. Upon returning to the U.S., Attila danced as a guest artist with companies such as Christopher Wheeldon’s Morphoses, Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico, Peridance Contemporary Dance Company, Peoria Ballet Illinois, Dance Form Productions, Thomas/Ortiz Dance, and Rasta Thomas’ Bad Boys of Dance.
In 2008 Attila joined the Lar Lubovitch Dance Company creating 9 new works together with the legendary Mr. Lubovitch. Here Attila received the Princess Grace Fellowship in 2012 for his extensive work with the company. After receiving this prestigious award Attila was able to enhance his career path in Choreography, Performance and Dance Education.
Attila has choreographed for companies such as the National Ballet of Canada, Il Balleto di Roma (Rome Ballet Company, Italy) and the Joffrey Ballet of New York. Attila continues to educate, coach and teach at schools such as Julliard, NYU Tisch, Florida State University, Canadian Dance Company and North Carolina School of the Arts.
In 2011 Attila partnered with ballet legend and Prima Ballerina Alessandra Ferri for her return to the stage in “The Piano Upstairs”. The Dance/Play was produced by playwright John Weidman and starring Boyd Gaines.
In 2012 Attila was Dance Magazine’s Recipient for Top 25 to Watch. Since 2013 Attila created and appears in Christopher Wheeldon’s original Broadway production of An American In Paris winning 4 Tony awards, 7 drama desk awards and 6 outer critic awards. Attila is also the recipient of the 2015 Outstanding Broadway Chorus award for An American in Paris.
Attila can be seen in the films Across the Universe, Academy Award winner Black Swan and the Stars Network’s show Flesh and Bone in which they received 2 Golden Globe nominations.
Currently Attila is rehearsal assistant to Christopher Wheeldon and
Lar Lubovitch, staging ballets for companies such as Pacific Northwest Ballet, Joffrey Ballet Chicago, Miami City Ballet, China National Ballet, Hong Kong Ballet, Tokyo City Ballet, The Julliard School and the School of American Ballet.
Attila has a BFA in Interior Design from Parsons School of Design –The New School. Interior Design has helped Attila to free lance with several agencies between New York City, Los Angeles and Toronto. Since August 2018, Attila is the Director of Development for Peridance Capezio Center in New York City and Igal Perry’s company “Peridance Contemporary Dance Company”.
